Welcome back to Breaking Boundaries, the podcast where we challenge the status quo and help you to optimize your energy, your performance, your longevity. Today we're breaking boundaries on a topic that affects every single one of us aging, or rather, how to slow, stop and even reverse it. Speaker 1:And now let's get started. So first I want to take a moment to say thank you. Whether this is your first episode or you've been with me since the beginning, I truly appreciate you, and the fact that you're here means that you're invested in your health, your energy and your performance, and that is worth celebrating. Now this topic. It's deeply personal for me. Some of you may know my story and I shared a little bit about this a little deeper than I'll go today, just for time constraints in last Sunday's from the heart newsletter. So if you got that, well, if you know, you know, when I was just six years old, my biological mom passed away. She transitioned from this physical experience because of leukemia and then, in 2022, my stepmom passed from dementia. Both of these experiences really shaped my mission to help people not just live longer, but live well while they're here, to be able to overcome those chronic health conditions.
Speaker 1:Because here's the truth longevity isn't just about adding years to your life. It's about adding life to your years. So today let's talk about what it really takes to slow aging, extend healthspan and bust some of the common myths that are keeping people stuck. So most people focus on lifespan how long they live but what really matters is healthspan how long that you stay strong and vibrant and independent and keep that vitality that you had when you were younger. So think about it. What's the point of living to 90 if the last 20 years are spent sick and weak and being a burden to other family members? The goal is to thrive, not just survive. So here's the good news you do have control over this. The difference between someone frail at 70 versus somebody still hiking at 100. Is daily choices. Life is choice.
Speaker 1:So let's get into the science of longevity Aging. It's often thought of something that well just happens, but modern science is showing us that it is actually a process we can influence. So let's take heart disease and stroke, for instance. So this is the number one cause of death, yet largely preventable through control of inflammation, control of metabolic health. You know, you can also add into that category things like type 2 diabetes or high blood pressure. They're all related to the cardiovascular system and they are completely within your control, despite what a conventional practitioner may or may not have told you, despite what marketing may have told you. You know, on television or the radio, I mean, we're just flooded with those ads all the time. So, moving on to dementia and Alzheimer's, this brain degeneration begins decades before symptoms appear, but early lifestyle interventions can slow or even prevent these brain impairing conditions.
Speaker 1:Now, with my step-mom, it was rapid onset and it was it was really unfortunate because I was um. You know she passed in 2022 and she became. We noticed the issues when you know, it was probably 2018, and I was. You know, I've been in the wellness industry since 2015, so I I knew a lot of the things, the foundational things, and I really didn't understand alzheimer's and dementia the way I do now, until I want to say it was too late, because when she was in a memory care facility that was controlled by conventional medicine doctors, I was not able to have an influence on the outcome at that point because they certainly weren't open to integrative health. Let me just put it that way. So you know, there's a lot that I could have done if the timing were different, and there's a lot that I can do for you or your loved ones. Now, when I have this information, I have the skills and I have the tools when it comes to things like Alzheimer's and dementia. It's no mystery on how that happens, why that happens and what can we do when that begins to set in.
Speaker 1:So now let's move on to cancer and autoimmune disorders. I really wanted to put this into like two separate categories, but again, I'm trying to keep these podcast episodes, you know, to 10 or 15 minutes every week for you. But what this thing comes down to is toxins, deficiencies, chronic inflammation. These all play a massive role in cancer and autoimmune disorders and functional testing can detect risks early. So you know, if we can eliminate cancer is kind of the wild card, and I want to talk about cancer specifically in just a minute. But if we can eliminate what I talked about first the number one cause of death being cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, high blood, high blood pressure, stroke if we can mitigate that and prevent those, like we are so far ahead of the game and then we can work on mitigating things like cancer, auto immune disorders and things like that. Now the functional testing absolutely instrumental, and then we can get into things like full body MRIs with no contrast. I mean that's an amazing technology right there in itself. And the reason is this because if we are not putting radioactive contrast into the body, we have a better, we have a better outcome. You know we're not putting a toxin into the body to look for other health issues. So non-contrast MRIs are definitely a game changer when it comes to detecting even the smallest amount of cancer.
Speaker 1:And when would you rather find out that you or a loved one has cancer? At stage four, when the work it's a lot harder to reverse that or when things are just getting started. You know, maybe stage one and healing that and cancer you know, reversing that cancer is a much easier task. So what I want to say about cancer is stay tuned, because next week I have I'm launching a cancer support page at Love Energy Wellness. Although we cannot say that we treat, diagnose, cure or prevent cancer, we certainly have tools that can support that and I have some amazing resources that I'm going to share with you in the weeks to come. So keep an eye out for that.
Speaker 1:So you might be wondering how do we address this? Well, it comes back to the three R's. I talked about the five R's before, but we can really narrow it down to three R's. And that would be to reveal, find out where your body is struggling, and we do this through at-home functional lab testing. And then we remove is the second R? We eliminate those toxicities, the stresses, the inflammation, before they start causing disease. And then the third R is replenish, or you could say rebalance, and this is where we use clinically proven natural protocols to rebuild and strengthen the body and bring vitality back to our lives. This is not just theory. This is backed by science. This has been done in clinical practice for decades now and it's been proven through clinical studies. Everything that we do over at Love, energy, wellness, there's efficacy to it.
Speaker 1:So let's bust some myths on aging, shall we? So here's one myth that you hear all the time Wrinkles and fatigue mean that you're getting old. Where the truth of the matter is, they're just signs of what we call oxidative stress. These are deficiencies and hormone imbalances, and they are all fixable. So the next myth is that our bodies naturally break down with age, and the truth of the matter is the body regenerates daily. It just needs the right inputs, the right resources to be able to replicate its cells. We have a process in our cellular regeneration Apoptosis is programmed cellular death, and then our cells can regenerate cellular genesis. We can regenerate cells, and it just needs the right inputs. And then the last myth that we'll cover that it's too late to make a difference, and nothing could be further from the truth. Studies show lifestyle changes can add decades of quality life, even in your 60s, your 70s and beyond. So you know, we pull secrets from what has worked, and there's.
Speaker 1:You may have heard of the blue zones before, the world's longest living populations, like those in Okinawa, sardinia, loma Linda they all have common habits and if we can bring these habits into our life, you know, I had a great podcast interview with one of my coaches just last night, jim Fortin. It'll be published in a week or two, and one of the best lessons that I learned from Jim was about habits, and we don't get what we want in life. We get our habits. So if we can make habits around nutrient-dense whole foods, if we can make habits around daily movement, not extreme workouts, if we can make habits around getting natural sunlight you know, there's another myth that sun exposure is hazardous to our health, and you know who do you think came up with that? Well, it was probably the manufacturers of sunscreen. So that is a myth as well. So getting sunlight uh, habituating that and natural rhythms not just sunlight on our skin but sunlight in our eyes helps to set up. If you can watch a sunrise and watch a sunset a few times a week, absolutely amazing for resetting your natural rhythms.
Speaker 1:Making habits around stress reduction through things like mindfulness and finding your purpose being purposeful in life. Your purpose being purposeful in life, whether that's donating your time or contributing in your community, or, you know, for me my purpose was changing careers. Late, you know, late in my life, and I don't want to say late. I feel as though I'm only halfway through the years that I have ahead of me. But what I'm doing now, compared to what I was doing 10 years ago, is much more purposeful. It's much more rewarding and spiritually fulfilling. And then making habits around prioritizing deep, restorative sleep this is absolutely foundational. It's a game changer.
