Speaker 1:

So we've all heard the saying that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, right. Yet with the rise of intermittent fasting and hectic schedules, more and more entrepreneurs are skipping breakfast altogether. It's very interesting. We've all heard that saying that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but more and more people that are coming to me in my private wellness practice when they fill out their intake form, they're filling out that they're actually skipping breakfast. But what if I told you that skipping breakfast could actually be sabotaging your metabolism, your health and, ultimately, your business success? That's right.

Speaker 1:

Skipping breakfast can lead to lower metabolism, reduced energy levels and a host of other issues. But don't worry, because today we're going to explore why starting your day with a nutrient-dense smoothie can be an absolute game-changer. Now, this isn't any ordinary smoothie here, so stay with me, let's dive into it the consequences of skipping breakfast. I want to go a little bit deeper into this. Research demonstrates that skipping breakfast can significantly lower your metabolism. When you skip that crucial first meal, your body goes into conservation mode, slowing down your metabolic rate to preserve energy. And what this can do is it can lead to weight gain, it can lead to decreased energy levels and this can actually make it harder to stay focused and productive throughout the day. Now the consistency of skipping breakfast on a daily basis. It's not just going to lower your metabolism for that day, it's actually going to lower your metabolic rate for good, and there's a lot of work to be done to be able to retrain that metabolism to come back up.

Speaker 1:

And it actually doesn't stop there Skipping breakfast. It can also lead to poor concentration, irritability and even an increased risk of developing chronic diseases like diabetes and heart disease cardiovascular disease. Now, for entrepreneurs, these health issues can translate into decreased productivity, poor decision-making and, ultimately, business failure. In fact, a study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that individuals who regularly skipped breakfast had higher levels of cortisol, which is your stress hormone, which can negatively impact your mood and cognitive function, and actually so much more than that. But we'll leave it at that for today. Cortisol is just an absolute I want to say chronic stress, because cortisol has its time and place and it needs to be elevated in the morning. But when it's chronically elevated throughout the day, day after day, week after week, week, month after month, it can absolutely wreak havoc on the body and shut down all of those essential systems in your body. So the next time that you think about skipping breakfast, remember the potential long-term consequences.

Speaker 1:

Now I did mention some disease names there, so I have to give you my disclaimer that you know I'm not providing any medical advice and I don't claim to treat, diagnose or cure any diseases. But what we do in integrative health is we get to the root cause of the problem, and I'll tell you how I know about this is because I was one that used to skip breakfast. I actually used to. I used to drink like a pot and a half of coffee. That was my breakfast, usually in the morning. And then, you know, once in a while I would have that standard American diet breakfast, that sad breakfast which was like bread or a bagel or cream cheese or just. Oh, my goodness, I can't believe. I used to eat like that, but now that I've implemented the strategy that I'm about to give you, for several years now, it's actually transformed. It's absolutely transformed so many aspects of my life. So this is foundational right here.

Speaker 1:

The power of a nutrient-dense smoothie is undeniable. So now that we understand some of the pitfalls of skipping breakfast, let's talk about a very powerful solution and, as you may have guessed, starting your day with a nutrient-dense smoothie. So I'm going to give you 10 reasons why incorporating a smoothie into your morning routine can set you up for success. Number one, as I already alluded to it is nutrient-rich. Smoothies are an easy and convenient way to pack a variety of essential nutrients into one meal, including vitamins, minerals and protein.

Speaker 1:

Number two balanced energy the combination of carbohydrates from fruits. Now, you know most people associate carbs as being bad. Carbohydrates come from fruit and vegetables, and those are good. Let's get that clear right now. So the combination of carbohydrates from those fruits and vegetables, along with a protein powder and healthy fats, can provide a steady source of energy throughout the morning. Number three improved digestion. Smoothies can be easier to digest. Now think of it. It's you don't have to chew it, it's already blended, you know, especially if you include dietary, fiber rich ingredients like those fruits and vegetables that support gut health. Now you know, some people say well, what about juicing? Juicing is fantastic because you're getting the vitamins and minerals from those vegetables or fruits that are being juiced, but you're missing out on the fiber. So that's why I'm an advocate of the smoothies over juicing, because you're getting the fiber as well, which is super important.

Speaker 1:

Number four hydration. Smoothies can help you stay hydrated, especially if you include ingredients, of course, like water. But coconut water or almond milk, I usually do a cup of each, a cup of water, of course it's well water and I filter it. And then I'm using almond milk, not with xanthan gums in it, but like I think it's a ghrelin gum. The G's are okay, the end of the alphabet's not. So no xanthan gum in the almond milk. But you know, as far as the hydration goes, it's a great way to get your morning hydration. You're having water in there, maybe you're having some almond almond milk in there, but the fruits and vegetables are about 80% water anyways. And speaking of 80%, about 80%, maybe 85% of Americans are clinically dehydrated. So if you're not getting, you know, 16 ounces of water upon waking, you're absolutely dehydrated, clinically, because you just maybe slept seven to nine hours and didn't have anything to drink. So your body is actually, you know, you'll weigh less in the morning when you weigh yourself, uh, compared to the evening, at night time, because your body is using up a lot of those fluids and liquids, so bringing those in with a morning smoothie is a great way to rehydrate yourself.

Speaker 1:

Now, number number five convenience Smoothies. They're quick to prepare and that makes them a convenient option for busy mornings. Now, what I do personally not every day, but especially the days that I know I'm going to the gym first thing in the morning I will make my smoothies the night before, put them in the refrigerator. It's just a grab and go in the morning, or if I'm going to take a road trip or whatever the case. Back when I used to work construction, I was also taking control of my health and I was implementing these morning smoothies. Um, smoothies were definitely, definitely the answer for me for, uh, better hydration, better cognitive uh function, more energy, uh, they were just absolutely amazing. But I was leaving the house at 4 30 in the morning, so I didn't have, I didn't want to make the time in the morning to prepare a smoothie. So that's when I started making them the night before. Uh, so it was just a grab and go in the morning. So number six I want to stick to the topic here, so I'm not doing a 30-minute episode today.

Speaker 1:

Number six weight management. A protein-packed smoothie with two to three tablespoons of a healthy monounsaturated fat, like an avocado. You could even put two tablespoons of olive oil in your smoothie. You'd never, ever taste it, but it's going to be in there. So that's monounsaturated fat. That is the healthy fat for you and that can help you stay satiated or feel fuller for longer, potentially reducing those cravings and supporting weight management goals as well.

Speaker 1:

Number seven immune support. We're putting multivitamins and multi minerals into the smoothie and that can provide essential nutrients. That supports immune function and overall health. It can replenish those deficiencies that are in the body. We use a daily nutritional support powder. It's absolutely amazing. You can find that over at 11 AG wellness comm slash shop and check out the one that we use. You know you don't have to use that one, but whichever you're using, make sure that it is a functional, medicine grade multivitamin, multimineral, activated, methylated. Those are the criteria for that all-in-one powder. And then it's also got 15 grams of vegan protein in it as well. But what this does is it helps to boost the immune system. I'm also using a fruit and vegetable blend, a daily fruit and veggie blend. You can find that on our shop page as well. So, number eight antioxidant boost.

Speaker 1:

Antioxidants it's the name of the game. You want to include colorful fruits and vegetables in your smoothie, which can provide a range of antioxidants that help to combat oxidative stress in the body. Oxidative stress is the equivalent of your body rusting from the inside out, so we want to be able to combat that. And antioxidants in the brightly colored fruits and vegetables. This is why I love the fruit and veggie blend powder, because it has 22 organic superfood fruits and vegetables in there, so I use that in my smoothie as well.

Speaker 1:

Number nine muscle repair and recovery. The protein powder in the smoothie can actually support muscle repair and recovery, making it an ideal option for those who are physically active. You can also add, you know, collagen powder or creatine monohydrate in there if you're looking to build or gain muscle. Absolutely great way. And you know the antioxidants. There's a study. I'll do a podcast episode on this because this is absolutely fascinating.

Speaker 1:

But blueberries. Blueberries are a great source of antioxidants, but they're also great for muscle repair and recovery. There was a study for I don't know if it was athletes or bodybuilders that were using blueberries against another control for muscle recovery and repair and the blueberries outperformed the other, as well as the placebo. So I'll see if I can find that research and do an episode on that. But that is the reason why the days that I go to the gym, I make the Purple Crush smoothie, the blueberry smoothie, absolutely amazing. I go to the gym, I make the uh purple crush smoothie, the the blueberry smoothie, absolutely amazing, and I'm going to share that with you uh, that recipe with you on today's episode.

Speaker 1:

So number 10 nutrient absorption, including a multivitamin and mineral supplement. It can help ensure that your body is getting all the essential nutrients that it needs, especially if your diet may be lacking in certain areas. Now, I mentioned that the smoothie is basically pre-digested for you and digestion takes up to 70% of your energy I'm sorry, 30% of your energy. So you can actually get 30% of your energy back from a pre-digested meal like a smoothie. Right, it's already blended up, that's. All your body has to do is absorb it over the course of about 90 minutes. I take my time and I sip my smoothie very slowly. Of course, if you drink it too fast then you might not be absorbing that. So absolutely great way to get your nutrient absorption in first thing in the morning.

Speaker 1:

And you know, starting your day with a smoothie. It isn't just about nutrition. It's about creating a morning ritual that actually supports your overall health and sets a positive tone for the day. Now you might be wondering how do I apply integrative health? As I always say, to avoid failure and lead to success. So integrative health it, as I always say, to avoid failure and lead to success. So integrative health. It's all about blending those traditional and modern approaches to optimize your well-being right. It's modern science, it's ancient wisdom. We bring that all together. It's called integrative health.

Speaker 1:

By incorporating this nutrient-dense smoothie into your morning routine, you're actually taking a step towards preventative care. Now, you probably would not have associated a smoothie with preventative care, but this can enhance your performance and your long-term success. So here's five quick ways how this simple habit can make a big impact. Number one, as I said, preventative care. Giving your body the nutrients it needs very first thing in the morning, you're setting the foundation for good health and reducing the risk of chronic diseases. That is clinically proven.

Speaker 1:

Number two enhanced performance. A nutrient rich smoothie can boost your energy levels and mental clarity, allowing you to tackle your day with vigor, vitality and focus. Number three resilience. Good health supports a strong immune system, helping you to stay with vigor, vitality and focus. Number three resilience. Good health supports a strong immune system, helping you to stay resilient against illness that could disrupt your business operations. Number four work-life balance. I know it's cliche, but when you feel good physically and mentally, you're more likely to maintain that healthy work-life balance. You're gonna have energy after your days of work to be able to go play and do the things that you want to do, which is crucial for long-term success and mental health. And number five sustainable habits. Integrative health always encourages sustainable habits, sustainable results that support your well-being in the long run, ensuring you can continue to grow and succeed.
